i'm 20!

i'm back in pennsylvania with my parents for the day. i had a great day today (technically yesterday as it's past midnight). i got some nice clothes and two pairs of shoes--my parents know me well. 

i also went to the craft store with my mom and i got some stuff i'm excited about. yall know how much i love gluing stuff to other stuff!

 i'm not going to lie, i feel a little old. 20 is something i'm not used to. it's a little daunting, a little scary. but it's great!

and here's my kitty. she's doing a lot better! she's still an old fart. but she's only 12. (not in cat years.)

 this bustier thing is from forever 21. you can't really see my skirt, but it's from american apparel. my bracelets are some string, a friendship bracelet, and a saint bracelet my friend got me in ireland. 

i'm tired. can you tell? i had such fun though!

tomorrow i have a bunch of doctor's appointments and am meeting up with a number of different people and submitting some job applications. then in a few days i'm off to california! i can't believe summer's almost over. it feels like it only just began.

first of all i just wanted to say thank you for all your amazing comments on my previous post. they made me really glad that i put all that out there because it's great that i'm not alone. things aren't better yet but i hope they will be and i think i'm on the right track.

i also wanted to ask you guys a question--i've recently found myself with money to burn, which is a little unusual for me. i was wondering if you guys had any recommendations about any etsy stores, online stores, et cetera that aren't too pricey but have really cute and unique and interesting things. i'm talking jewelry, clothes, accessories, whatever.

and if any of you mice have a store of your own, link me and i'll definitely check it out!

me vs food

i am one of those people who loses weight fairly easily.

however, i also gain weight REALLY easily.

i've been both pretty heavy and pretty thin

i think i was at my heaviest in 10th grade?

and my skinniest in 8th although i'm not sure that should really even count

because i was basically a child

being six feet tall it is relatively easy for me to wear weight

but sometimes its not

right now my face and my stomach look a little heavier than i want them to

as do my thighs

it's hard living with an amazing cook who i'm pretty sure makes things as unhealthy as paula deen does

not to mention the fact that i LOVE FOOD

especially cheese

and i waste a lot of calories getting drunk

SO

i'm making a resolution

in front of you all so i can be accountable for it

i'm going to start to eat things (not ALWAYS but i will try)

that are good for me and good for my skin because that's been looking a little ick too

i don't have a scale so i can't really say i want to lose x number of pounds

but i want to look good! and feel good! hooray!

and also save some money because damn i am broke

this is how ali and i prepared for hurricane irene. i was so convinced that the tree outside our window would fall and crash through and kill us (of course nothing happened although it still does lean quite precariously) that i made him drag our mattress into the kitchen, farther from the windows and the courtyard, and we spent the night in it.

we also bought a 12-pack of tacos from taco bell figuring that if the power went out they'd still be good.

he looks pissed off for some reason. i want to say its probably because of my pikachu. he HATES my pikachu.

i've not been so good with updating but i've only got just under two weeks of school.... so busy oh god.

street harassment/the perils of living in new york city?

there is very rarely a day in which i go outside for any period of time and do not end up getting hit on/whistled at/ogled/harassed by someone.

this happens no matter what i'm wearing - whether i'm dressed up, in a t-shirt and skirt, going to class, going to party, bundled up or baring skin.

and i will admit - sometimes it's flattering. other times it makes me feel sick. worthless, objectified, marginalized.

and yes, sometimes i do dress in a marginally outrageous fashion, and i'd be lying if i said i didn't at least expect some attention to go with it. but when someone treats me - and other girls - like objects, no matter what we are wearing or doing or where we are going, it sucks.

and it has to stop.

i don't know what i can do by myself, but there's a wonderful movement called hollaback (where both of these images are sourced from!) that is working for truth, justice, and the american way.

well, i might have confused them with superman, but you get the picture.

the point is, whether i dress provocatively or conservatively, whether i am influenced on a particular day by alexander mcqueen or zee from dmz or lady gaga or the basket case, i'm not doing it so i can get shouted at and "checked out" by men i don't know.
